A memory care community is designed to care for residents with Alzheimer's and other related dementias. Residents are usually confused, wander prone, and or pose behavior management issues. Since their needs tend to fluctuate on a daily basis due to the nature of dementia, a community offering staff with specialized care and training is needed.
As symptoms of Alzheimer's progress and problems with memory and judgment increase, caregivers can promote the resident's sense of well-being by providing emotional support and by helping to maintain familiar activities and social contacts. During all stages caregivers must refine and make changes to the care plan as needed and in anticipation of the challenges associated with the stages of Alzheimer's disease.
