Hagerstown has many local attractions to offer, especially with respect to the Civil War. Hagerstown is close to Antietam National Battlefield, the site of the single bloodiest day in American history. South Mountain State Battlefield, Fort Frederick State Parke and Washington Monument State Park are also close. Harpers Ferry Battlefields are located within a 30 minute drive.

The city of Hagerstown is listed on the national register of historic places and is also home to the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historic Park.

There are many tourist locations to visit such as the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts which is located in the famous Hagerstown City Park.  Don’t forget to see the Mansion House Art Gallery, Western Maryland 202 Locomotive Display and Museum and the Hager House and Museum.  Outside of the Park, the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum houses exhibits of Hagerstown’s early railroad history.  There is also a hands on Science and Technology Museum featuring exhibits in numerous galleries and display areas, also to include the Hagerstown Aviation Museum.

Hagerstown is home to the Maryland Theatre, which is a symphony house that plays host to the Maryland Symphony Orchestra and the annual Miss Maryland USA Beauty Pageants. The city also has the Washington County Playhouse.

The city of Hagerstown hosts several popular annual events.  In the Park Craft Shows are held during the summer featuring local artists.  Downtown Live is an alternative festival that features live reggae and rock music and entertainment held at various times throughout the year. The Western Maryland Blues Fest also draws thousands every year.  Hagerstown has a strong ethnic heritage and the popular Augustoberfest celebrates this heritage. The largest nighttime parade in America, the Alsatia Mummers’ Halloween Parade is held in Hagerstown as well.

Hagerstown is home to the minor-league baseball team called the Hagerstown Suns.  The Suns are a Class A Affiliate of the Washington Nationals.  The Suns play in Municipal Stadium.  We are also about an hour’s drive from the Baltimore Orioles and the Baltimore Ravens.
