The Lodge at Mallard's Landing offers memory care options for it's residents.

Gig Harbor Memory & Dementia Care

The Lodge at Mallard’s Landing Memory Care program was created to help provide support for seniors experiencing the stages of memory loss, as well as their families. We know that this is not an easy journey, but we believe with the right care and support, your loved one can find daily happiness and relief in the hands of our experienced team.

We find importance in placing emphasis on the positive moments and memories. We engage in conversations surrounding favorite past memories or topics. Based on conversations like these, we try to tie-in current events to continually spark interest and work on cognitive skills.

Core Values

Under direction of a nurse, activity professionals, and care team, our daily routine consists of four core values:

  • Mental vitality
  • Physical activity
  • Social engagement
  • Emotional support
Mental Vitality

Even though your loved one may struggle to remember present day details, they can often reflect on the past with confidence. This is comforting for them, and something we aim to focus on throughout our mental vitality care exercises.

A typical morning exercise consists of newspaper reading and discussion time. We work to connect past historical events with current ones in effort to generate discussions. From book clubs and puzzles to trivia and favorite TV shows, our goal is to keep your loved one informed and engaged.

Typically, although short-term memory may be hard to call upon, your loved ones’ long-term memories often trigger happy remembrance. We enjoy knowing everything we can regarding your loved ones’ past so that we can ask thoughtful questions and engage productively. Some conversations could potentially include: Where did you go to high school? What was your father’s profession? Where was your first date? These questions can all spark additional memories and lead to happy and productive conversations.

Music is also an important aspect of our mental vitality care. We love to be given a list of favorite songs that our team can use to connect with residents. Music is just another tool we enjoy using to make solid connections with our residents.

Physical Activity

In order to discover all that the Pacific Northwest has to offer, our Memory Care residents are able to enjoy the surrounding outdoors with a Memory Care escort or Lodge team member, while getting fresh air and exercise in a secure environment.

In addition to outdoor exercise, Memory Care residents may be able to attend exercise classes in the Main Lodge with a Memory Care escort, depending on physician advisement and family discussion. Exercise classes would be a service reviewed and included in the resident service plan. Fitness plans are customizable and have the ability to adapt to meet your loved ones’ needs. From strength training and Ta Chi to outdoor exploring, our fitness options are endless.

We can partner with personal fitness professionals who specialize in senior care fitness to give our residents all the tools to feel healthy and active. One-on-one physical therapy can be discussed with your loved ones’ physician. We also have dancing opportunities to get residents on their feet in a social, carefree setting.

Social Engagement

Socialization is also an important pillar of our Memory Care. We encourage resident interaction through structured sessions. An example of this is our “Getting to know you” social time. This allows residents to share memories, reflect on funny moments or previous professional endeavors.

Another special feature of our Memory Care community is resident “story boxes”. You’ll find these boxes outside each apartment door, offering caregivers favorite topics to reminisce about.

Relatives of residents are encouraged to visit and spend time in either loved ones’ suite or our various common areas. Whether you want to dine in the main dining room or spend time in our game room, all amenities are available to you, both in the Main Lodge and Memory Care community.

Seasonal trips include Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium, Northwest Trek, and other favorite attractions. Summer highlights? BBQ’s ice cream socials, lemonade in the sun and exploring the quaint town of Gig Harbor.

Emotional Support

Emotional support comes in all forms. Between church services to support groups, we are always looking for new ways our residents can connect with something that creates excitement and engagement in their lives. Conferences are available for relatives and residents with our Executive Director, Wellness Director, and team to help create the best overall environment and service plan for residents.

We encourage family members to create a memory album containing photos of loved ones, friends, houses where their loved one grew up, previous pets, etc. This memory album aids our team in helping generate happy memories. Family Movie Nights are a popular event, as well as homemade movies that are shared by residents and their families (VHS or DVD)

Seniors enjoy time outside.

Our Memory Care neighborhood offers suites in a wide variety of floor plans. These apartments are intended to provide the utmost relaxation, along with tranquil on-site amenities such as our outdoor gazebo and activity area. In addition, Memory Care residents have access to our fitness-center (with a Memory Care escort and family permission), wellness programs, spa and salon in our Main Building.

Ultimately, we want your loved one to thrive in our Memory Care neighborhood. Our nurses and team members work 24-hours a day to provide a level of care and support to make your loved one feel safe and happy. Our goal is to keep our Memory Care residents engaged mentally and physically through a variety of activities. We are confident that after visiting our community and offerings, you will see what makes The Lodge at Mallard's Landing Memory Care so special.
