Emmanuel was so enthusiastic about the possibility of my father being a resident here that we were not only assured that his care would be as comforting as he is, but he would be exceptionally cared for. "...feels like coming home."
"My mom has been at Birchview since 2004. The staff have not only been caregivers to my mom, but an extended family as well. When I fly down to visit my mom it feels like coming home. This is not just a facility that has housed my mom for 8 years. This is the place that has cared for her, nurtured her and loved her. Truly...there's no place like home!"

"...couldn't be more satisfied."
"I don’t have much of a voice but I have no trouble singing the praises of the Birchview Memory Care community in Sedro-Woolley, WA. Over a period of several weeks, I looked at and read about memory care communities in the vicinity of my house in La Conner and settled on three, all of which had attractive features to offer. It was Birchview, however, that won me over.  It didn’t take long. Within an hour I knew this was the place where my beloved wife would find the care and compassion I so desperately wanted her to have.

The very first thing that struck me was the welcoming nature of the building’s interior design. Light and warm colors greeted me everywhere from the clear- story windows in the dining room to the comfortable fireplace room to the carpeted hallway. I discovered later that the community provides ample places to walk with my spouse, particularly when it was cold or raining and we couldn’t make use of the beautiful, groomed courtyard and walkway outside. With dry weather, I like nothing better than to walk with my wife inside and out completing the circle several times, all with the staff’s encouragement.

Another feature which immediately impressed me was the space. With separate common rooms and dining areas upstairs and down, a separate activities room and even a small beauty salon, I didn’t once feel that the place was too cramped or crowded or that the residents were in each others way. There was plenty of room to roam within a safe and secure environment, something I didn’t feel as much with the other communities I visited.

By far, the most important factor for me in deciding where to place my wife was not the architecture, but the quality of the staff and attendants who care for her day to day.  On my very first visit, I  observed that there seemed to be no shortage of attendants, all engaged and focused on the individual residents as they seated them for lunch. The Licensed Nurse was also on hand, dispensing medications to each of the residents as the meal progressed. The kitchen person serving the meals knew every resident by name and what their diet required. The dining room was relatively quiet, but the body language of the caregivers spoke to attentiveness and concern as they bent to their tasks. It was reassuring to learn that Birchview has a Director of Wellness and many professional and wonderful nurses.  Having visited my wife every day since the initial “settling in” period, I’m even more impressed with the staff and attendants. From the director on down, their devotion and commitment to their job is remarkable. My wife is in the best of hands and I couldn’t be more satisfied."
